At least 39 people died in a stampede<\/a> at a rally addressed by Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president and actor Vijay in Karur, Tamil Nadu on Saturday (September 27, 2025), as part of his State-wide political tour. Over 80 people were injured.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the event progressed, several people reportedly fainted in the crowd and were rushed to the Karur Medical College Hospital and private hospitals nearby.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chief Minister M.K. Stalin announced a solatium of \u20b910 lakh each to the families of those who died in the stampede, and \u20b91 lakh for those who were injured and are being treated in hospitals. T.N. Government has announced a commission to be headed by retired Judge Aruna Jagadeesan to probe into the circumstances that led to the stampeded, said Mr. Stalin.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
